As all my watchers surely know, I haven't been active on DA this year. I had to drop out of most of the RP groups I joined in 2013 due to inactivity, and I haven't drawn much digital art either. However, every weekend at our Bible study, I always have time to sketch in my notebooks. I found this pack of yellow notepads that have been my best friend for the past year and a half or so, so even though the paper is yellow and has lines running through it, I feel comfortable sketching in those notepads and carrying them around with me everywhere I go. ^__^ (I did find the time to scan them in over the past week, and now I just have to compile them so you guys can see that I haven't forgotten how to hold a pen.)
Work has settled down somewhat, but I work long hours and by the time I get home I just want to eat dinner and crawl into bed. Not very conducive to an active internet life. Unfortunately, I have developed a mild case of carpal-tunnel syndrome in my dominant hand, which really sucks. I have been trying some exercises to help get over it, but sometimes it gets painful. This doesn't affect my ability to type or play the piano, which I'm grateful for.
While I don't have the time or inspiration to draw at work (getting interrupted every couple of minutes by a ringing phone absolutely destroys my drawing muse), I have managed to squeeze in a good deal of writing. Not actually stories, though, more like a collection of random ideas that I've had while sitting at my cubicle and staring off into space. So many ideas, in fact, that I have a whole new folder called "Ideas I Had at Work" with a new text file for each month (sometimes with a "Part 2" if I wrote a LOT of ideas in a month). XD Looking back at the stuff I've written, I know I will have to share these once they've been solidified into something that makes more sense.
I have so many plans, but first I am going to revise my novel. I don't expect it to be done anytime soon, as my unfortunate lack of planning left me without an ending and I will need to patch up the many plotholes left in the wake of my mad rush to write 50,000 words in November. However, it's something that I really want to finish. I like this novel a lot better than the one I wrote last year, and although I'm not sure I actually want to publish it officially, I might share it online if I like the way it turns out.
I also discovered an online serial called "Worm." It's about a world where superhumans abound (called "parahumans") and the main character is a 16-year-old girl named Taylor who has the power to control bugs and other invertibrates. At first she dreams of becoming a superhero, but then things take an unexpected turn. I highly recommend it, although it definitely has some disturbing parts. All of the villains are well-written, and some of them are so genuinely scary that I shudder just thinking about them. (Seriously, I've been deeply disturbed by some parts of this story [i.e. the Slaughterhouse Nine arc] but I still love it.) The worldbuilding and sheer creativity and depth that went into each character's personality and powers is just stunning! Another bonus is that the story is actually completed. If you like superheroes and epic worldbuilding, then this is for you! Start here: parahumans.wordpress.com/categ…
Another thing that happened this year is Music! I have (re)discovered a plethora of different artists, and their music has helped keep me sane and inspired this year (at least for writing). This obviously is not a complete blow-by-blow of my year, just a few of the main highlights. All in all, it feels like the past 52 weeks have gone by WAY too fast. Oh well, no time to think about that now. I'm too busy preparing for 2015!
