This group looked so fun, I couldn't help myself!
Valerie Richmond (her nickname is Val)
5'5" (165 cm) // 137 pounds (62 kg)
Her power manifests as a painless buzzing in her brain, the feeling of which is slightly different depending on what will come. She can sense when something dangerous or that will cause a strong negative reaction affecting multiple people will happen soon. When this ability activates, she becomes very alert and the tingling will become more urgent, almost like a mild headache, until it passes.
It curves around her cheek under her left eye, with a circle inside the curve. (Er, I'm not too great at describing the thing; just refer to the picture.
Organized schedules and deadlines; traditional systems she can follow
Harmony with other people
Giving special gifts to those she values
Writing and working on things she can physically interact with (a doer rather than a thinker)
Conflicts and arguments
Others taking advantage of her generous, helpful nature
Being totally ignored
Really abstract concepts, and people lording their intellect over her (she's not dumb but some things are harder for her to understand than others)
Valerie is a compassionate and quiet soul, looking to serve and help wherever she can. She basks in the warmth of a rare compliment and tries to return the favor, feeling rejected and unappreciated when people don't seem to notice or acknowledge what she's done for them. However, she would never call attention to her own works, preferring to help quietly in the background rather than toot her own horn in the spotlight.
She is very responsible and will keep her word when she gives it, even if it means she must go to great lengths to accomplish a promised task. She enjoys producing high-quality work, and will often go out of her way to remind friends of upcoming deadlines, giving advice on how best to complete a project if asked. She is a loyal friend and ally, giving support, advice, and a listening ear, but she is timid and doesn't stick up for people very well. Rather, if she sees someone being wronged or harassed, she will run away and contact an authority figure who can take care of the problem.
With her sharp memory, she will strive to remember all her friends' birthdays and do something special for them. She takes pride in her ability to arrange furniture and choose colors to create an aesthetically appealing environment, and you can be sure that if she wasn't required to wear a uniform, she would display a naturally tasteful and traditionally conservative sense of fashion.
However, she is not without fault. In the absence of positive feedback, she can become discouraged and even depressed, criticising herself and believing that she has not performed to the best of her ability and that this is why others are "shunning" her. In this case, she may overwork herself in an attempt to convince herself that she CAN do something right, but it doesn't always work and may even end up backfiring (burning her out). She becomes distressed when put in a place of authority or supervision, wanting to aid leaders rather than lead. She hates to be taken advantage of, but has a hard time saying no and tends toward being a compliant doormat when people ask her to do something for them. She embarrasses easily, and doesn't like to be seen in public with a person who is doing an embarrassing thing. Yes, if it is possible, she will literally run away and hide rather than be caught in the eye of the public with a ridiculous person, no matter who they are.
Valerie was born and raised in a large city. Since her father was in the military, she was raised in a similar environment. Strict schedules, good education, and lots of physical activity were all parts of young Valerie's unbringing (although she never could seem to lose her baby fat; she has resigned herself to being eternally chubby). She has a positive view of authority and doesn't tend to question orders or systems. Her father taught her how to use a few different kinds of guns, although Valerie never intends to use her knowledge of weapons.
While her family had little direct income, all her needs were provided for and she never lacked anything essential. She was taught to be frugal, thrifty, and economical, and as such she is very anti-materialistic, thriving on words and memories rather than material possessions. What few belongings she has formed an attachment to are stored safely in a little box she keep in her room. Still, gifts given out of love have a special place in her heart, and she has an instinct for knowing what will make another person's day as well. She likes to keep an eye out for a little trinket to get for a valued friend or family member, or, if she doesn't have the money, she will make a gift for someone.
Her family was known for having a generally good reputation, liked by others in the community. Her loyally patriotic parents always upheld the law and the community spirit, viewing it as part of their right to the rest of the community to be an example of involvement. Valerie learned from their example to obey the law, to help others with projects that might not directly benefit herself, and also to have a bit of compassion for the needy and how to diplomatically cooperate with others who may have differing views from her.
Her mother was an avid charity donor and a merchant's daughter, running her father's shop after his death. Valerie enjoyed being in the shop with her mother, sitting in a corner with books and paper for reading and writing while her mother conducted business. Valerie was never the social type, but she did have a few friends at school whose company she enjoyed, and she likes to be around familiar people in small doses. However, too much exposure to people exhausts her, and she needs time alone to think and relax. (She usually turns to books or single-player games for refuge.)
Val always had a fondness for words and loved to read and write from a young age. As she got older, the books she enjoys are generally nonfiction; biographies, journals, historical books, etc. She doesn't really see the point of fantasy, although due to her circumstances she has developed a growing interest in science fiction.
She knows how to express herself, but usually does so in a private journal. Because she believes in the rule of concise language and not wasting words, she doesn't talk too much, and even her writing is written in a style short and to the point without a lot of prosaic ramblings. If she seems very quiet when you first meet her, it is simply because she has nothing of importance to say and doesn't want to fill the air with meaningless noise. She lives by the saying: "We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak."
Valerie has a younger sister, Brooke, who was about four years old when Val got her powers.
She has central heterochromia
: a harmless genetic condition where the outside of both irises are light blue, but the innner rings are more of a blue-green. (It's not an uncommon occurence; you probably know someone who has this condition and passes it off as "hazel" or something.)
